The day had been a long one and Jack was thoroughly pooped. Who knew teaching 4th year Hufflepuffs could be so hard? And it wasn't just that they'd been mixed in with the 4th year Ravencalws and for some reason they'd just been crazy. maybe someone had spiked the Ravenclaws pumpkin juice at lunch? Regardless it had been a stinker of a day.

'Time for some relaxation,' Jack's mind whispered to him as he leaned back in a comfy armchair and set his feet on the coffee table, something professors weren't allowed to do but he was alone so he didn't care. Normally he would have been relaxing in his office but today he didn't feel like being cooped up in that time little place. It just led to marking and more depression at the fact that no one really listened in his class.

A soft bell chimed and jack knew his coffee was ready. With a flix of his wand the steaming mug floated over to him along with some chocolate biscuits and a copy of the day's Prophet. He needed to catch up on the wizarding news. For several weeks now he'd been reading the muggle news paper 'The Times' because a lot seemed to be happening in the muggle world right now. Some would call him a geek, some would even call him crazy but Jack didn't care. He knew Minister Dumbledor read muggle newspapers because he knew that if the wizarding world kept and eyes on the muggle going's on then they could be better prepared for things. As he delved into the Prophet he failed to hear the door open and someone enter.

Aurora was just not having a good day. And she supposed that she had no one to blame but...Miles. Her son was testing her patience once again and it just added to the fact that he was sick and complaining that his father was smothering him. Well Aurora was all for Severus smothering the boy at this point. Their son had put himself in deliberate danger and he did not seem to care one bit about it. So it seemed that he deserved to be cooped up in the Headmaster's quarters until he saw reason to behave. She needed a glass of wine, and unfortunately she knew that she was not permitted to have any. So it would seem that tea would be the best thing.

Going into the staff room she froze. Jack was there...great, that didn't make this awkward at all. There were many unspoken things between the two of them. One of them being whether or not they were going to get back together. She knew that Jack was sent away, but that did not change the fact that Aurora was any less hurt. She loved him, still loved him, and he just did not see how much his absence had affected her. Sighing she moved past him and began making herself tea. The beauty of magic being that all she had to do was point her wand at her cup and watch as the hot water filled her mug.

Moving past him she glared at his feet and, moodily, pushed them onto the floor. He knew better than that. Sitting down in a chair she pulled out her, infamous, book of Poe poems and began reading.

Jack knew Aurora was in the room, he always knew when she entered a room even if he didn't see her or hear her. Even though he knew the woman he loved was in the room he kept his nose lodged in his newspaper. Jack was uncertain whether he and Aurora were on speaking terms let alone still in a relationship. It was a complicated situation, were they, weren't they? In Jack's opinion they should be with each other...completely and Aurora did believe that he'd been banished, which he had been and that probably made the situation a little less weird but still weird nonetheless. Who was Jack kidding the whole relationship had been weird from the start but a good weird. Aurora was probably the most sensative person about her family history and she had once been in item with the current head of Hogwarts and had kids with him...threatening or what. But they'd powered through and had started to love each other.

'I wish those times could be brought back,' Jack thought as he skimmed over an interesting article on the new found uses of pig's eyes. As he got more and more into the article he felt his feet being knocked from the coffee table and they hit with ground with a hard thud, startling Jack out of his reading. He glared over at Aurora who was 'innocently' reading her Poe book and looking stunning in a sexy black dress.

"You could have just asked me to take my feet off the table," Jack said rather cooly as he stuck his nose back in the Prophet. He was in no mood for her games today, he just wanted to relax and read the paper, not have another arduous conversation which involved the discussion of whether they were or were not an item.

Aurora rolled her eyes, of course she could have asked...but then that would have ruined her plan when it came to completely shunning him. She loved him dearly, but it was the only way to mask her pain. The only way she could keep him from knowing just how much she needed him she tried to prove that she did not.

Coughing a bit she turned the page to her Poe book and sighed, she was already missing him. Had they been together she would have been on the sofa with him, snuggling into his side and probably reading aloud. Sighing she shook her head and leaned farther back into the chair. However not even the dark words of Edgar Allan Poe could distract her from the man in the room with her.

Looking up at him she sighed and then looked back down.

"Did you start your lesson plans yet?" she sighed.

For a moment Jack wasn't sure if he'd heard her correctly. Had she just asked him something that wasn't filled with venom? He ruffled the paper a little and kept his nose in it while he replied to her.

"Yes I started them a while ago, you know me and Muggle Studies I just love it." Jack's tone was noncalant and secretly he wished he could look at her but if he did he would turn into a puddle on the sofa. Clearing his troat he tried to keep his voice neutral of any real emotion.

"Have you started yours yet? Again he ruffled his paper and then he sniffed a little. He was better at masking his emotions than he thought, or maybe all of his paper rustling was giving him away, or maybe it had been the cough and the sniff. Eugh Jack didn't know so he kept on reading. Soon his eyes found an article which was about the muggle football team Chelsea getting into a bit of trouble in their stadium with a herd of wild and very very lost Knarls.

"How have your students been this year?" he asked mildly as he finished the funny article and turned the page to reveal a rather garish picture of a hag wearing revealing clothes.

Aurora shrugged, her students were the same as they always were. Most of them incompetent at the slightest task and soon to blow one another up before they could manage to properly disarm one another. Sighing she leaned back into her chair and closed her book. Jack had an easier class than she did...for one his was an elective...usually the students that took Muggle Studies wanted it. She had chosen to teach a core class...meaning come Hell or high water they would have to take it.

"Same old, same old, I suppose." she sighed. "The first years are still as clumsy as the last...if not far more ridiculous."

Aurora knew she rarely praised her students, but anyone of the staff members knew that she cared deeply for them all. Her son was a student after all, as was her daughter. So she had a bleeding heart for children, one that she hid under many, many, layers of gauze and bandages...but it was there none the less. Turning the page to her book, so she at least LOOKED like she was doing something of interest she sighed once more.

She was running out of things to say...which with Jack was not normal. Usually they had plenty of things to talk about. They would talk about students, her children, their future together as a couple. For them to both fall into a silence as awkward and saddening as this just did not make sense. She could not believe they were just letting it die this way...but she was so proud...it was just so hard for her to admit that she was wrong. And Aurora knew that she was...she knew that she was wrong to prosecute Jack the way she had done so.

Aurora loved him with all of her heart. Loved that he was strange, loved that he knew more about muggles than a muggle did, loved that he made her smile when she really did not want him too. She just loved Jack from the bottom of her heart, and her pride was once again hindering that. Pride was a thing of evil. Too many wars happened because of pride, too many lives lost and hearts broken over something as insignificant over pride! Well if it took just one to win in the battle of pride, Aurora would be self sacrificing.

Standing up, she stalked over to Jack and snatched the paper from his hands. Throwing it into the hearth of the fireplace she straddled his lap and taking his face into her hands kissed him! Kissed him with such passion and heart that cupid himself would fly back to the God's and call in for retirement!
